LEIPER HATCH

Is it a cross of Leiper and Hatch or is it a pure bloodline?

As you called it, it could be a cross of the 2 bloodlines; however Leiper and Hatch are 2 different lines.

Leipers are a totally different breed. They are more of a whitehackle/roundhead cross. They show more like a roundhead type of fowl with better cutting abilities than hatch fowl. What I think is that Harold brown, Billy Ruble just to name of few breeders had the slow ducking power type of Hatch and added the Leipers to improve the Hatch fowl of today. Most of the modern Hatch fowl have leiper influence in them.

Leiper is leiper and hatch is hatch the only way to have a leiper hatch is to cross the two bloodlines cause they are separate familes just cause thry both have green legs dont make them one in the same its like sayn butcherclaret or roundheadalbany

if it is not a Hatch what is the blood composition of a Leiper?
Leipers are not descendants of the Hatch. Leipers did not contain the Hatch blood per se. Although to my knowledge they have the same composition of blood lines, maybe of different proportions –
The Kearney Whitehackes, Irish Brown Reds and Duryea Fowls (known as the Boston Roundheads back then).

liepers have all ways come straight and pea comb the first leaper cock i saw as kid years ago was spangle and straight comb you cant breed out the whitehackle an brown red i have a leaper family that some of the chicks hatch out brown red but change color as they grow.
Mr. Howard Suttles Leipers,…. A friend of mine was reared near Mr. Suttles and had his Leipers. Mr. Suttles told him that the Judge said they were a combination of Brown Red, Whitehackle, and Roundhead but didn’t say what type. Mr. Suttles always bred a yellow leg roundhead Leiper each year but we normally thing of them as green legged fowl only.

Irishcutt has had his Leipers from Harold Suttles since the 1950’s I believe they are still running in the Mountains of TN. His come Straight Comb and Pea combed, I got the straight comb of him many years ago and they are as good as any I have seen.
